I have a question for anyone who regularly handles or stores fresh eggs, especially in larger quantities. We recently started looking more carefully at how we organise and transport eggs because the trays we have been using are not working as well as we hoped. At first, it seemed like a very simple thing, since a tray is just there to hold the eggs, but after dealing with a few cracked eggs and awkward stacking problems, I realised there is probably more to choosing the right one than I thought. I am currently considering different options and trying to understand what really matters when selecting an egg tray for regular use. The main thing I want is something that keeps the eggs stable without making loading and unloading too slow. We handle fresh eggs quite often, and when people are rushing, even a small design issue can create problems. If the eggs do not sit properly or the tray bends too much while being carried, there is always a risk of breakage. It might not seem like a major loss when one or two eggs crack, but over time those small losses can add up. I have also been thinking about the material because our current trays can become worn out after repeated use. Some are difficult to clean properly, and others lose their shape after being stacked for a while. I would prefer something that can be used repeatedly and cleaned without too much trouble, but I am unsure whether a more durable option is always the best choice for everyday handling. Does anyone here use reusable trays for eggs and have experience with how long they normally last? Another concern is stacking. We sometimes need to store a large number of eggs in a limited space, so the trays need to stack securely. I do not want to create a situation where everything looks stable until someone moves one stack and the trays start shifting. How important is the design when it comes to stacking, and should I pay attention to how the trays lock or sit on top of each other? I have seen different sizes available, which has made me wonder whether choosing a standard size would make storage easier in the long run. We are not running an extremely large operation, but we still need a practical system that saves time rather than creating extra work. Transport is another issue because sometimes the eggs need to be moved from one area to another before they are packed or delivered. The journey is not very long, but even short movement can cause damage if the eggs are not properly supported. Has anyone found that the type of tray makes a noticeable difference during transport, especially when the vehicle moves over uneven roads or when the trays are handled several times before reaching their destination? I would also like to know whether weight matters much. A tray may be strong and durable, but if it becomes too heavy once several are stacked together, that could make daily handling more difficult. On the other hand, something too light might not feel strong enough for repeated use. I am trying to find a reasonable balance rather than simply choosing the cheapest option. I have been checking different storage and handling products recently and have noticed that many items look similar until you start comparing the small details. That is why I thought it would be better to ask people who have actually used them in real situations. Are there particular features you now consider essential after working with eggs for some time? Maybe something you ignored when buying your first trays but later realised was important? I am especially curious about durability, ease of cleaning, stack stability, and protection against breakage. Any honest advice would be useful because I would rather make one sensible purchase than keep replacing unsuitable trays every few months.
