I am posting on behalf of MedProofs. I noticed the discussions about broccoli and beetroot here, and I would like to ask how people read the research behind a claim about a vegetable.
For me, the question is what the study actually measured. Was it a change in a blood test, or did it follow health outcomes over time? I would also look at whether the researchers tested a whole food or an extract. Those details can be lost in a headline.
Our nutrition section at MedProofs includes food guides, including one about jicama, a root vegetable. It is general reading, not a recommendation to change treatment or a diet prescribed by your clinician.
Do you usually read the original study, or do you prefer an explanation from a dietitian?
