My Jeep Wrangler has started to make a dry scraping noise from the front wheels, and I have only one free afternoon this week to deal with it. I work long shifts, and I cannot leave the car at a garage for a whole day. The Jeep has about eighty thousand kilometres, and I think the pads were never changed. A friend told me a good workshop can do the front pads in about an hour while you sit and wait. Another friend said a quick job on a Jeep is a bad sign, because the wheels are heavy and the brake parts get full of sand and dust. I looked online for a Quick brake pad change for Jeep Wrangler owners, but every page said fast and cheap, so I still do not know what a proper job should take. Is one hour realistic, or should I plan for two? Should the shop clean the sand out of the calipers before they fit new pads? Should they check the discs and the brake fluid at the same time? Is it normal to ask for the old pads back, so I can see the wear? Also, should I book early in the morning so they are not in a rush? And is it okay to drive gently for a day or two after the job? If you did this on a busy day, please tell me how long it took, what you paid, and what you would do differently. Easy answers help me most.
